Misbah ul Haq may have been replaced as T20 captain of Pakistan, but the big hitting middle order batsman is still looking to reclaim his place in the side and has his eye on making the world cup. It was in the T20 World Cup in 2007 where Misbah really made his name and cemented his place in the side so he will be looking to turn back the clock and show he still has it. Reuters has more. Pakistan’s one-day and test skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has said he will continue to play Twenty20 cricket despite being stripped of the captaincy for the short format and wants to be selected for the World Cup. “I enjoy playing T20 cricket and I will continue to play at the domestic level. I have not given up hope of playing in the ICC World Cup in Sri Lanka this year,” Misbah, who turns 38 next week, told reporters on Friday. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) named Mohammad Hafeez as captain of the national Twenty20 team last week and dropped Misbah from the squad. Misbah said it was the PCB’s decision to appoint a younger captain for the Twenty20 format and he wished Hafeez well. [...]

Well Faisal Iqbal has made yet another return to the Pakistan squad, he flattered to deceive early on in his career, looking at home at times against some high quality spin bowling as a youngster but then looking out of sorts at most other times which has meant he has a career with more downs than ups. But will he be able to once and for all cement his place in the test side? Personally i dont think he will be able too the talent of his uncle certainly has only briefly touched him but Iqbal for one is backing himself and if he has as much mental toughness as his uncle then he certainly has a shot, Cricinfo tells all. Faisal Iqbal, a middle-order batsman who is set to make his third comeback to the Pakistan team when they tour Sri Lanka this summer, is eager to cement his place in the Test side once and for all this time. Meanwhile Mohammad Ayub, who is set to debut on the same tour, is wary of the ‘tight competition’ in Pakistan’s middle order. Iqbal has played 26 Tests across the past decade, the last of which was in January [...]

The writing was probably on the wall for Misbah Ul Haq, after a poor run of form with the bat in this format and given his age aswell, many were expecting Misbah to be replaced as captain. The man who has replaced him may not have been everyone’s choice but he was certainly one of the few names thrown into the hat, All Rounder Muhammed Hafeez who has solidified his place in the side thanks to his ability with the bat, ball and in the field now has the chance to prove his nickname of ‘The Professor’ is true. Surprisingly there were also recalls for the Sri Lankan series to Faisal Iqbal and Muhammed Sami. Pakistan would be better served trying youngsters before going back to tried and tested failures but time will tell whether recalling Iqbal and Sami again were yet again bad idea’s. Cricinfo has more. Misbah-ul-Haq has stepped down* as Pakistan’s Twenty20 captain and Mohammad Hafeez has been named his successor for the Sri Lanka series in June. Pakistan Twenty20 squad Khalid Latif, Ahmed Shahzad, Mohammad Hafeez (capt), Shoaib Malik, Umar Akmal, Shakeel Ansar (wk), Shahid Afridi, Yasir Arafat, Umar Gul, Sohail Tanvir, Saeed Ajmal, [...]

Muhammed Asif, recently released from prison in England, has described the last of the trio to remain in prison, former Pakistan captain Salman Butt, as ‘lonely and depressed’ . Now that Salman knows he is the only one of the trio left, it will surely play on his mind more and he will be looking forward to his release in around six months. Dawn.com has the full story. Pakistan’s banned fast bowler Mohammad Asif, who got released from a British jail on Friday after serving a sentence for the infamous spot-fixing scam at Lord’s, described his fellow player Salman Butt as a lonely man who was anxiously awaiting an end to his term in the prison. In an exclusive chat on the phone, Asif disclosed that he was sharing a room with Salman in prison for about three months. “Salman and I were sharing the same room for three months in the prison and he wished me good luck on the day of my release,” said Asif. “But he (Salman) is a lonely man and looked very depressed on the day of my release from jail. He has been quite miserable at times and is anxiously awaiting his release.” HMP [...]

Muhammed Asif has walked free from prison in Kent having served the six months of his sentence. The lanky seamer who was one of the world’s leading test bowlers at the time of the scandal still has hopes of returning to International Cricket and representing Pakistan and has kept himself active by playing football and badminton in prison. BBC has more. Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Asif, one of three jailed for a fixing scam, has been released after serving half of a 12-month sentence, his lawyer says. Asif, 29, the former world number two Test bowler, was freed from Canterbury Prison in Kent on Thursday morning. In November, Asif and team-mates Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir were jailed for a plot to bowl deliberate no balls in a Test match against England in 2010. All three players were also given five-year playing bans. A Ministry of Justice spokesman said it did not comment on individuals. “Foreign national offenders released from prison on licence will be supervised by probation for as long as they remain in this country,” he said. Undercover reporter The fixing scandal came to light when an undercover News of the World reporter approached sports agent Mazhar Majeed, who [...]

After appearing on the international scene with a bang, Umar Akmal who quickly notched up an odi and test century was promising to develop into one of the best, but the talented youngster suffered the year two blues and has not been able to reproduce that potential he showed in his debut year. Now Umar Akmal wants the chance to blossom by batting higher up the order and allow himself more time to score big, a player like Akmal is a game changed, and when he gets his eye in there is no doubt he can make a massive difference to the game. Cricinfo has more. Umar Akmal, the Pakistan batsman, has said he needs to bat higher up the order to covert his double figures scores to three figures. He scored his only ODI hundred three years back in Sri Lanka and has pressed for the chance to make more when Pakistan return to the country in June.
Muhammed Yousuf, one of the finest batsmen Pakistan has produced, is looking to make a come back to the international side. At 37 the best years have past and with Younis Khan and Misbah ul Haq both in their mid 30′s would Pakistan be taking a step back by bringing another player towards the end of his career back into the side at the expense of a younger player who could be groomed? Or are Pakistan signalling that perhaps they dont believe they have enough youngsters who are capable of stepping up and making their name in Test cricket? With Dav Whatmore as the new coach, the chance is there for Yousuf to start clean. Cricinfo brings us more news. Mohammad Yousuf, the Pakistan batsman, has said that he’s still passionate about playing cricket and would relish the chance to play Test cricket again. He took a fitness test under Pakistan coach Dav Whatmore on Tuesday in a bid to stage a comeback to international cricket. Yousuf, 37, last played a Test in 2010, when Pakistan took on England in the controversial Lord’s Test that was marred by spot-fixing.
Abdul Razzaq, frustrated at being overlooked again for the Pakistan national side will be heading to England to yet again represent Leiceistershire in the England T20 tournament. Razzaq has been successful in England when representing County sides in the T20 and will be sure to want to build on his successes there with both the bat and ball with the champions. Are Pakistan missing a trick with Razzaq? It is a shame Razzaq has not utilized his hitting ability with the bat in International T20′s by moving up the order, batting in the top 3 would surely be a wise move for him. The Express Tribune tells us more. Out-of-favour Pakistan all-rounder Abdul Razzaq has opted to pursue his interests in England after being overlooked since the series against Sri Lanka as well as for the ongoing fitness tests in Lahore. Razzaq will turn up for Leicestershire in the team’s Twenty20 campaign after having recovered from a shoulder injury ‘to an extent’. However, after being ignored by the coaching panel, headed by Dav Whatmore, that is conducting training and the fitness tests, Razzaq has decided to make this decision. “I keep getting overlooked, maybe the authorities don’t like me,” [...]
